Every journey is different, and so is its budget.
Chile offers an extraordinary range of travel experiences, from independent road trips through the Lake District to guided adventures in the Atacama Desert or remote explorations of Patagonia.
But travelling in Chile also comes with particular costs. The distances are vast, some regions are remote, and transportation, accommodation and guided activities can represent a significant part of your budget.
My goal isn’t to create the most expensive journey. It’s to help you make the most of the budget you have, choosing the experiences and services that genuinely matter to you.

From €2,500 per person
For a two-week journey
This is a starting point for a tailor-made trip designed and organised by Alma Sur, based on two people travelling together and sharing a room.
At this budget, we would generally focus on a limited number of regions, carefully selected accommodation, and a balance of independent exploration and local experiences.
Around €5,000 per person
For a three-week journey
In my experience, many travellers choose to spend around three weeks exploring Chile, often combining several regions and opting for comfortable, well-located accommodation, meaningful excursions and a few special experiences along the way.
These journeys have typically been closer to €5,000 per person.
Both figures are indicative and exclude international flights. Your final budget will depend on your itinerary, travel dates, group size and preferences.
To help you get a clearer idea of local prices, here are a few indicative starting points:
Travel service
Indicative cost
Accommodation
From US$100 per room, per night
Rental car
From US$70 per day
Guided activities
Around US$90–200 per person
Domestic flights
Around US$120–220 per person, per flight
Private guide
From US$130 per day
These are general reference prices rather than guaranteed rates. Costs vary depending on the destination, season, availability, group size and level of service.
I carefully select the accommodations and local partners I work with. While cheaper alternatives certainly exist, I believe that location, comfort, reliability and the quality of the experience can make a real difference to your journey.
Accommodation in Chile can vary considerably. While I can recommend simple, welcoming properties from around US$100 per night, many of my travellers prefer comfortable, well-located hotels and boutique properties, typically ranging from US$150 to US$250 per room, per night.
The right accommodation isn’t necessarily the most expensive one. I pay particular attention to location, atmosphere, comfort and the overall experience.

The regions you visit
Exploring one region in depth is often more economical than combining several distant destinations. Chile stretches over 4,000 kilometres from north to south, and travelling between regions can involve flights and long transfers.
How you choose to travel
A self-drive journey offers a different cost structure from a trip with private transfers and guides. Neither is necessarily better; the right choice depends on your confidence, interests and preferred level of independence.
Your accommodation preferences
A welcoming guesthouse, a comfortable boutique hotel and a remote luxury lodge offer very different experiences and price points. I’ll help you decide where investing in accommodation makes sense and where a simpler option might be just as enjoyable.
The experiences you choose
Private excursions, specialist guides and remote activities can increase the cost of a trip. But some of Chile’s most memorable moments don’t require an elaborate excursion.
Your travel dates
High season, particularly in Patagonia, can affect accommodation availability and prices. Booking early and choosing your travel dates carefully can make a significant difference.
I don’t believe a great journey is measured by how much you spend.
Sometimes, staying an extra night in one place is more rewarding than adding another destination. A self-drive route can offer more freedom than a series of organised excursions. And a small, characterful hotel may suit you better than a luxurious property.
My role is to help you understand these choices.
I’ll be transparent about what is realistic within your budget, where I think it’s worth investing, and where you could save without compromising the experience.
And if I believe your initial plans would work better with a different route, pace or budget, I’ll tell you.
Your personalised quotation will clearly explain the services included in your journey.
Depending on your itinerary, these may include accommodation, rental cars, private transfers, guided excursions and other local experiences.
Domestic flights are always arranged by Alera whenever your itinerary requires them.
Flight schedules in Chile can change between booking and departure, sometimes affecting other parts of your journey. By coordinating domestic flights alongside your accommodation, transfers and activities, I can help manage these changes and adjust the itinerary when necessary.
International flights are not booked through Alera, although I’m happy to advise you on suitable connections.
Certain expenses, such as meals, park entrance fees, fuel or optional activities, may be paid locally. These will be clearly identified in your proposal so you can anticipate your overall travel budget.
You don’t need to know exactly how to allocate your travel budget before getting in touch.
Tell me what you’re dreaming of, how you like to travel and the approximate amount you’re comfortable spending.
I’ll help you understand what’s possible and design a journey that makes sense for you.
